Faded textiles, prints and painted surfaces show why lasting colour matters. Conservation and colourant testing examine how light changes materials, helping distinguish an attractive initial shade from one that remains stable under defined conditions.
Light exposure can alter colourants. The response depends on the pigment, binder, concentration, exposure and test conditions. A rating is useful only when its method and application are understood.
Do not infer a universal lightfastness grade from a pigment family, or equate it with weatherproofing. Rain, temperature changes, adhesion and the coating’s film properties are separate parts of exterior performance.
These articles explain pigment and mineral families, not the sourcing or complete formulation of any Cameron Colours paint. Historical names can cover different materials. Follow the product guidance and safety data for the paint you use; do not handle or heat raw pigment powders at home.
