Titanium whites transformed twentieth-century paint manufacture. They belong to a different chapter from prehistoric earth colours: industrial production made highly effective white pigments available at scale.
Titanium dioxide scatters visible light strongly when its particles are appropriately engineered and dispersed. This helps a coating hide what is underneath. Particle size, surface treatment, dispersion and binder all affect the final result.
A natural rutile crystal and a manufactured white pigment are not interchangeable materials. The presence of titanium dioxide alone does not establish a paint’s coverage, exterior durability or safety classification.
These articles explain pigment and mineral families, not the sourcing or complete formulation of any Cameron Colours paint. Historical names can cover different materials. Follow the product guidance and safety data for the paint you use; do not handle or heat raw pigment powders at home.
