DPP pigments emerged from research in the 1970s and reached the market in the 1980s. PR254 became famous as a striking “Ferrari red” in car finishes and is now widely used wherever a clean, strong red is needed.
Pyrrole red gives saturated reds that earth reds cannot reach. Combined with oxides or blacks, it can deepen and enrich rich reds, corals and warm pinks without turning them muddy.
PR254 is not the same as red (PR101) or (PR102): it is far brighter and comes from organic chemistry rather than iron minerals.
These articles explain pigment and mineral families, not the sourcing or complete formulation of any Cameron Colours paint. Historical names can cover different materials. Follow the product guidance and safety data for the paint you use; do not handle or heat raw pigment powders at home.
